Zoological Garden

In the Zoological Garden, around 14,000 animals romp around on a 34-acre area next to the same named train station. With 1552 species the zoo is one of the most species-rich animal parks in the world. More than three million pet lovers visit the zoo annually.

The animal kingdom was founded in 1844 on the initiative of zoologists Alexander v. Humboldt and Martin Lichtenstein and was Germany’s first zoo.

Children under 5 are admitted free, for students and disabled discounted prices apply. To avoid long waiting times at the entrance, we recommend purchasing tickets online.

It is possible to rent wheelchairs at no extra charge, prior registration is required. For the little visitors carts are available at a small fee.
